Welcome

MISSION

For more than 40 years, the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) has been at the forefront of engaging leaders, policymakers, professionals, and parents around critical and timely issues that directly impact Black children and their families. They are a trusted partner in delivering culturally relevant resources that respond to the unique strengths and needs of Black children around issues including early childhood education, health, child welfare, literacy, and family engagement. With the support of the  National  Office, we are committed to their mission “to improve and advance the quality of life for Black children and their families through education and advocacy.”

VISION

NBCDI/BCDI-Charlotte envisions a society that ensures a successful future for all children.

BCDI-CHARLOTTE

For more than 8 years we have strived to carry out the mission of the National office by providing programs in and around Charlotte in the areas of health and wellness, literacy, early childhood education and college readiness. Listed below are some of our current programs:

-The Promoting Healthy Nutrition Practices is a program designed to encourage healthy nutrition practices specifically among Black families with young children. The program is designed for children ages 3-12.

-The Healthy Fun Fair a program that is presented in collaboration with the NCAEYC-SW (North Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children-South West).  It is designed as a day that parents and children can have a day of fun and education and resources.  We bring together local businesses and agencies that provides services for children and their families in the areas of physical and mental health, nutrition, education, safety and resources alongside childcare centers who provide art, crafts, games and other activities to keep the children engaged while the parents talk to the local vendors at the fair.

-Entering the College Zone is an intervention/prevention program that empowers economically disadvantaged middle school students to achieve the goal of higher education while motivating their parents to take an active role in furthering their children’s education.  Recognizing the need to give every child a chance to realize their career aspirations, BCDI-Charlotte accomplishes the mission of the ECZ program through an extensive network of partnerships between families, the public schools, and colleges and universities.
